# The person's spending line

November 3, 2026 · API

Until now a confirm needed the person's code whenever the restaurant's total was over $50, and the person's daily limit refused anything past it. One number now does the asking, and it counts the whole day.

## What changed

- **The person's line.** Each person sets one amount between $15 and $150, $75 for new accounts. Existing accounts keep the number they had. Once their orders today pass it, the next confirm needs their code (`codeReason: "over_limit"`).
- **Under the line, no code.** A $60 order on a $75 line confirms without a code, where it used to need one.
- **The daily ceiling.** Layout never orders more than $150 of food for one person in a day, with or without the code. Fees, the courier and the tip sit on top. Past it, confirm answers `over_daily_cap`.
- **Bigger orders.** One order can carry up to $150 of food, up from $50.

Every other check still runs: the person's first order through your application, Layout's risk checks, a code already out for the cart, and the price lock.

## What to do

If your code assumed a code is due over $50, stop: read `codeReason` on the cart, or handle `code_required` on confirm, as the [carts reference](https://docs.layout.link/carts) describes. Nothing else changes in the API.

## Breaking changes

None. The fields, codes and endpoints are the same; only when a code is due moved.
