Fees and Layout One

This is Layout's fee schedule, the one the Terms and Conditions incorporate by reference. It is effective October 21, 2026.

The service fee

When Layout places an order for you, it adds one service fee to that order:

4% of the restaurant's total, plus 25¢.

The restaurant's total is everything the restaurant charges for the order, including its tax and its own fees. The 4% is rounded to the nearest cent. The fee is charged per order, it is the same whatever card you pay with, and it is part of the one total you see and confirm. It is never a separate charge that arrives later.

On a delivery, the 4% includes the delivery fee, and it is never charged on the driver tip.

Worked examples

Restaurant's totalService feeTotal you confirm
$3.50$0.39$3.89
$7.00$0.53$7.53
$12.34$0.74$13.08
$25.00$1.25$26.25
$40.00$1.85$41.85

When there is no fee

  • Nothing placed, nothing charged. Browsing menus, building a cart and checking on an order are free. The fee applies only when Layout places an order.
  • An order that is not placed. When an order fails, the hold on your card is released, so neither the food nor the fee is charged.
  • Layout One. See below.

Layout One

Layout One is $4.99 a month. While it is active, Layout charges no service fee on any of your orders, including orders placed for you through apps built on Layout. It also lets you keep up to three cards on your account instead of one.

Refunds and the fee

When a refund is approved for an order that went wrong, the service fee for that order is refunded with it. What qualifies and how to ask are in how refunds work.

What the restaurant charges

Menu prices, tax and any fees the restaurant adds are set by the restaurant, not by Layout. Layout passes them through as the restaurant states them, and they are part of the restaurant's total above.

Changes to this schedule

A change to this schedule applies only to orders placed after it takes effect.
