Set up your account

Everything about Layout hangs off one account: your phone number, your card, your preferences and your order history. You set it up once, at account.layout.link, and then you mostly never open it again.

Getting in

Layout is invite only while we are early. If you do not have an invite yet, join the waitlist at account.layout.link/waitlist and we will text you when a spot opens.

With an invite in hand:

1. Sign in with your phone

   Enter your number and we text you a six digit code. There is no password to make up and none to lose.

2. Redeem your invite code

   Single use, and tied to the number you signed in with.

3. Add your name and email

   The restaurant needs a name to call out at the counter, and we send your receipts to the email.

4. Save a card

   This is the card Layout charges when you confirm an order. It is entered straight into our payment provider's PCI compliant vault, so we never hold the number ourselves. Restaurants are paid with a Layout card, never yours. See card data.

Your spending limit

Layout will not spend more than a set amount per day on your behalf, no matter how many orders you ask for. It starts at fifty dollars a day, and you can move it anywhere between fifteen and one hundred and fifty in your account settings.

The limit is enforced on our side, not in the assistant you are talking to, so nothing you or a model says in a conversation can raise it. Money controls explains why it is built that way.

There is a second bound you cannot move: no single order goes through above fifty dollars while the card rail is this young. An order over it is refused and named as refused, rather than failing in a way you have to guess at.

Codes on an order

New accounts confirm with one tap. If you would rather add a step, turn on order codes in your security settings and every order will then ask you for a fresh code we text you first. It is the same kind of code you signed in with, and it authorizes exactly one order at exactly one amount.

The setting is yours either way, and it only covers smaller orders: past fifty dollars a code is required whatever the setting says.
