Your Layout account

Everything about Layout hangs off one account: your phone number, your card, your limits, your orders and the apps allowed to order for you. It is the same account in every app and assistant. You manage it at account.layout.link or under Account in the iPhone app.

Signing in

Enter your phone number and Layout texts you a six-digit code. There is no password. The first time, you add your first and last name, which the restaurant calls out, and an email, where your receipts go.

If an app built on Layout signed you up, your account already exists: sign in with the same number.

Your card

Layout charges your card for the orders you confirm, and pays the restaurant itself, so the restaurant never sees your card. You add it on Layout's own page, whether you start from Layout or from an app, and it is held by Layout's payment provider rather than on our servers. See card data.

The free plan keeps one card on file. Layout One keeps up to three. Add, replace or remove cards under Billing.

Starting without a card

You can try Layout before adding a card. Ordering through Layout itself or an assistant, an account can build up to three priced orders with no card on file, ever, and a build that never reached a priced cart does not count. Some apps built on Layout can also show you a priced order first. To place one, add a card: nothing is confirmed without one.

Your limits

A daily spending limit. Layout will not spend more than this on your behalf in a day, across every app, assistant and order. It starts at $50, and you can set it anywhere from $15 to $150 under Security on the web or Spending Limit in the iPhone app. It resets at midnight UTC.

A ceiling per order. No single order goes through above $50 at the restaurant, before Layout's fee. An order over it is refused and you are told why.

Both are enforced on Layout's servers at the moment of the charge, so nothing said in a conversation can raise them. Money controls explains why.

There is no setting for order codes. Layout texts you a code only when an order calls for one; see confirming and paying.

Connected assistants and apps

Under Access, on the web or in the iPhone app, you see every device you are signed in on, every assistant you connected, and every app that can place orders for you. Each has a Disconnect button.

• An app you disconnect stops at once: it cannot build or place orders for you until you connect it again. See apps that use Layout.
• An assistant you disconnect can no longer renew its access, and what it already holds runs out within ten minutes.

Layout One

Layout One is a monthly membership that removes Layout's service fee on every order, including orders placed through apps built on Layout, and lets you keep up to three cards. The price and what it includes are at layout.link/one and on fees and Layout One.

Deleting your account

Delete it at the bottom of the account page on the web, or under Data Controls in the iPhone app. Your orders, preferences and saved cards are removed. You cannot delete while an order is in progress; wait for it to finish.

You have 30 days to change your mind: sign in again with the same number and Layout offers to recover the account. After that it is permanently deleted.
